Offshore

Jetting Lance and Chain cutter module for BSSIII (BURIAL SLEDGE SYSTEM III)

In 2017, Barth is contacted by Boskalis to engineer, produce and install a Chain Cutter Module (CCM) for their new cable laying tool called BSS III. Subsea cables are installed by cable-laying vessels that carry the submarine cable on board. For this purpose, different tools are developed. Most of them are used for installing windmill cables offshore.

Together with our team of engineers we’ve managed to build a state of the art Cutter which is removable from the BSS III as a module. Engineering took place parallel to the development of the BSS III, so teamwork was key to the project. One big challenge was making the CCM strong enough for the job within the weight limits. Also reaching the required burial depth of the cable was a design challenge that was successfully managed.

In a later stage of the project, Barth was also awarded for the production of the Jetting Lance. A 20mtr hight strength steel tool for jetting/burying the cable into the seabed. The Jetting Lance is built on fully DNV-GL supervision.

We would like to thank Boskalis for the confidence to execute both projects and to be part of the project team in the last couple of years. Congratulations for finishing the job on the Borssele Alpha and Beta project.
